Kayley and Vanessa: Celebrating 'Family' in an Intentional, Intimate Elopement

Kayley and Vanessa: Celebrating 'Family' in an Intentional, Intimate Elopement

Posted by Vanessa Ford on

"Marriage, to us, is love in its truest form, not just the romanticised version we see in movies or written in Valentine’s cards. But love that exists here and now. It’s commitment, resilience, friendship, choosing each other every day, and walking through life hand in hand – especially through the hard seasons."

Basking in the most breathtaking panoramic view overlooking Queenstown, the pair promised their unwavering conviction of love for each other in the company of their closest ones.

Kayley and Vanessa’s story began over 16 years ago in Townsville. An organic start to their blossoming relationship, they started as simple friends. And just like any other friendship, trust, laughter and genuine connection were built along the way. Eventually, their bond slowly grew into something deeper and more meaningful.

And the best part: there was no rush, no pressure, just true care that naturally evolved into love for each other.

Fast forward to 2025, Kayley popped the big question and proposed to Vanessa.  With their hearts set on creating an intimate, unique and truly unforgettable moment, the duo went all in on a helicopter Queenstown elopement to celebrate their union. Not only did it reflect the couple's relationship, the venue was deeply personal and awe-inspiring. And who wouldn't love to get married in front of a scenic Queenstown view? We sure would! The special two in attendance lucky enough to witness their union were their sons – Harrison and Thomas – which made the moment even more memorable.

“It wasn’t just a wedding; it was a family milestone. Creating memories of happiness together as a family. After experiencing loss, it was incredibly important for us to celebrate love, joy and togetherness. The day was about honouring where we’ve been and everything we’ve overcome.

Coming into the dress shopping experience, Kayley did not just want a gown, she wanted something that aligned with who she is now. Modern, effortless, and true to her. And she found all those in a custom made design by When Freddie Met Lilly. With the help of our Bridal designer, Ness, she walked out with a curated two-piece gown that exceeded all expectations and was better than anything she could have imagined.

“Vanessa made the entire experience intimate, calm and completely stress-free. She listened [and] understood my vision… The experience was intimate, professional and genuinely enjoyable from start to finish."

Like every couple, the pair wanted their looks to complement each other effortlessly. Staying true to their our own styles, they worked together on a shared vision which made everything felt cohesive, timeless and reflective of their relationship.

“The best part of my bridal shopping experience, without a doubt, Vanessa herself. Her warmth, professionalism and deep understanding of the bridal industry made everything seamless. She created a space that felt personal and safe, and she truly cared about the experience, not just the outcome.”

Opting for an all-inclusive helicopter wedding package (which included everything from styling to makeup), the pair could truly relax and bask in the celebratory afterglow – letting the once-in-a-lifetime experience sink in. Accompanying the incredible landscape, the family were enveloped by soft pastel tones that were incorporated to keep everything minimal, light, elegant, romantic and natural. But for the couple, the colours also intentionally symbolises love, remembrance and connection as well. Close to their hearts, it was a subtle tribute to their Hugo and Lucy who will always be looking over them.

Advice for Brides

Do what makes you happy not everyone else. When you stay true to yourselves, everything else falls into place. Trusting your instincts usually works. Let go of expectations and embrace what feels right for you, and don’t be afraid to do things differently. Your day should reflect your love story no one else’s.
