Mel and Ryan: From the Playground to Partners for Life

Mel and Ryan: From the Playground to Partners for Life

Posted by Vanessa Ford on

Mel and Ryan's story begins way back in primary school, growing up alongside each other in the same neighbourhood, until they eventually dated in their high school years. And while life led them in different directions for some time, they were drawn back together and over a cup of coffee, they realised it was truly meant to be.

On a family holiday in Fiji, they all set off for a hike to a waterfall, where they were meeting a local photographer for what Mel thought was just an ordinary family photo shoot. But Ryan had another plan, and proposed in front of their family, capturing the moment on camera - and it was so incredibly special!!

Marriage to them is having a partner to walk through life with - being the support for one another, choosing each other through both the hard days and the good, growing and building a life together, and creating a beautiful home and family, knowing there is always someone beside you in every season in life.

When it came to planning the big day, they looked for a while for their dream venue, both wanting a place out in the countryside that also provided the ceremony, reception, decor and catering all in the one spot. That's when they came across The Rock Yandina, close by to many of their family members and with a boho country rustic style that was everything they could have dreamt of. In their experience, John and all the staff went above and beyond to make sure their day was truly magical.

While searching for her dream gown, Mel knew all she really wanted was a dress that draped over her body but still fit in all the right places, and she also wanted to sparkle so she could feel like a princess on her special day. She had her very first appointment here at When Freddie met Lilly and didn’t have to look anywhere else. She wanted to highlight her experience - from the moment she walked in, she felt welcomed, comfortable and special, and seeing her vision come to life each step of the way was absolutely magical, and the result couldn't have been more beautiful, styled with a gorgeous floral hairpiece instead of the traditional veil.

Ryan went along with all Mel's ideas for his suit, and he looked so incredibly handsome.

With the country rustic boho theme, Ryan's groomsmen were in sandy coloured suits and Mel's bridesmaids dressed in a rustic orange, beautifully complementing the landscape of the venue.

Mel's bouquet was also a stand out! With beautifully curated native flowers and a large white protea in the middle. The bridesmaids, Mother of the Bride, and Mother-in-law all had similar bouquets, and the groomsmen and Father of the Bride had buttonhole flowers to match.

So many special moments were shared on their big day! While Ryan was getting ready, Mel shared a heartfelt letter before walking down the aisle, a meaningful moment before becoming husband and wife. They were also given special jewellery from both of their grandparents that Mel wore, to honour their grandparents who have passed. And another personal touch: a handmade flower girl dress for Mel's daughter from her Mother-in-law, which tied in with the theme and looked so beautiful beside Mel and her girls.

Some advice from the bride and groom:

Focus on what means the most to you on your wedding day, then spend your energy and budget on those things. For them, it was her wedding dress and grandparents' jewellery, and making sure everyone was comfortable and having a good time, which meant great music and food, and not to mention her dress was the star of the show.

Secondly, accept that things may not go to Plan; your guests will not notice the small things. Just take it in and enjoy it all!

We absolutely loved being a part of your beautiful love story and are so grateful that you trusted us to help bring your vision to life!
