After a chance encounter online, and a lifetime of love to follow suit, it should come as no surprise that Jay and Brittany couldn’t be luckier when it came to finding their undeniable, once in a lifetime love, when scrolling on Bumble 18 months ago.
Their attraction, which was “instantaneous”, meant that their whirlwind romance moved quickly; however, the couple never felt as though it moved too fast – “when you know, you know!”
And for Jay, he knew that Brittany was the one, just after 5 months of being together.
Laughing, Brittany recalls that “Jay proposed in bed one morning, and initially, [I] thought he was joking … [however], I realised very quickly that he was not!"
“It was very casual – [Jay] didn’t even have the ring yet.” In what felt like fate, Jay promptly went out the next week, and bought the perfect ring, in the perfect size – it is safe to say, that their love was truly meant to be.
When it came to finding her dream gown, Brittany spent days and days researching bridal boutiques and their wedding gowns, before even going to have a look, and try on wedding dresses.
After researching for what felt like weeks, Brittany booked an appointment with When Freddie Met Lilly, and knew instantly, that she had found her dream dress.
“I had my heart set on a two piece, [but] as soon as I saw my gown at When Freddie Met Lilly, I changed my mind”
When reflecting on the dress making process, and her time spent with When Freddie Met Lilly, Brittany said that no alteration was too difficult, and that her dress was “perfect”.
Wanting to ensure that their outfits “looked the part” when next to each other, Brittany helped Jay choose his suit. His outfit, which saw him sporting a black and gold paisley suit, represented his fun-loving nature, and perfectly complimented Brittany’s outfit.
Their big day, which was set at Brisbane’s Smoked Garage, saw the couple surrounded by their nearest dearest, in a venue that truly felt like them.
“It was the first venue that we looked at, and we knew as soon as we walked through the door, that this is where our special day would be.”
The couple, who are not big on public displays of affection, did things a little untraditionally on their special day.
“We decided against a bridal party, and made the wedding just about Jay and I … we also met before the wedding at a roof-top bar, had a cocktail to calm our nerves, and exchange vows.”
For the happy couple, this meant that their day was super personal, and that their vows were just for them – a truly unforgettable moment for Brittany and Jay.
They also opted to go to the venue together, rather than separately, to walk down the aisle hand in hand, ready to conquer the world.
The couple were also met by shots at the end of the aisle, which meant they could ‘cheers’ to their nearest and dearest before tying the knot, and saying “I Do.”
When asked what the most useful piece of advice was during their planning process, Brittany says to remember that “your opinion matters most,” and to “always listen to what everybody has to say, but only commit to certain things if it’s a ‘whole-body yes’; don’t be afraid to make the day uniquely you!”
For Brittany and Jay, marriage is liking having a permanent partner in crime for all of life’s biggest adventures, and about creating a bond where love feels safe and fun, all at once.
“Marriage is teamwork, laughter, and finding joy in the small moments … it’s building something uniquely “us, and knowing we’ve got each other’s backs through the hard stuff.”
