Robyn and Darryl first connected on the 21st of September and met in person just ten days later for a playful first date of Putt Putt at Mermaid Beach. “It was such an easy, fun date,” Robyn recalls. That spark lit the path that led them to their forever.
True to their romantic yet down-to-earth style, Darryl popped the question at one of their early date spots, Mt Coot-tha, where the couple once enjoyed ice-cream together. “He surprised me by proposing there; it was simple, meaningful and so very us, ”Robyn shares.
The couple chose Currumbin RSL for its personal significance. “My family shared so many dinners and memories there growing up,” Robyn explains. With space for all 155 loved ones and a stunning waterside view, the venue was the perfect blend of nostalgia and celebration
Although Robyn’s beloved mother passed away in 2021, her presence was tenderly woven throughout the day; from a memorial wall to quiet tributes that kept her memory close to their hearts.
Robyn’s bridal journey was filled with excitement. “Trying on the gown for the first time was a beautiful moment; I loved how elegant it looked. And it had the last two things I’d always hoped for: a sleeve and pockets!”
At When Freddie Met Lilly, we adored bringing Robyn’s vision to life, tailoring a gown that celebrated her curves and her individuality. She found joy in exploring silhouettes she never imagined would flatter her. “As a plus-size bride, it was amazing to see how many styles still suited me; I felt truly spoiled for choice,” she says. Robyn’s gown, with its elegant lines, soft sleeves and those oh so practical hidden pockets, carried her gracefully through every hug, dance and happy tear of the evening.
To complement the timeless white of her gown, Robyn chose forest green bridesmaid dresses; a shade that flattered every skin tone and hair colour. White roses and soft greenery tied the entire palette together in bouquets by Fifth Avenue Florist, mirrored in the boutonnieres for the groom and groomsmen.
The couple’s personal vows became the heart of the ceremony. “Sharing those words was my favourite part of the entire day,” Robyn remembers.
Although Darryl didn’t shed a tear at the aisle, his words made her heart soar: “You look so beautiful,” he told her again and again throughout the night; the kind of sweet refrain a bride never forgets.
“The most important thing to me was marrying my now husband in front of our family and friends,” Robyn reflects. “Having so many smiling faces around us was a dream.”
Robyn’s advice for future couples? “Make time to be with each other during the day. And don’t forget to enjoy it, because it truly flies by!”
Robyn also offers a practical planning tip:
“Keep a list of dates and written correspondence with everyone. It makes the organisations so much easier.”
