A Celebration of Love: Lachlan & Kirstin’s Magical Queenstown Wedding
At When Freddie Met Lilly, we believe every love story deserves to be celebrated in its own special way. Recently, we had the absolute joy of working with Lachlan and Kirstin as they planned their dreamy destination wedding in the breathtaking Queenstown, New Zealand. Their story is one of persistence, romance, and a shared love of adventure—proof that sometimes, the best things really are worth waiting for. Here’s a peek into their beautiful journey—from their first meeting to their unforgettable wedding day.
A Modern Romance Begins
Lachlan and Kirstin's love story began in the most Millennial way possible—on Tinder. After a few matches and some persistence from Lachlan, they finally connected in 2019, and the rest, as they say, is history. Fast forward to 2 January 2023, on a chilly Parisian evening on the Pont Alexandre III Bridge, Lachlan got down on one knee with the Eiffel Tower twinkling in the background. The moment was filled with cheers from strangers and the magic of a real-life fairytale—truly one for the books.
The Meaning of Forever
For Lachlan and Kirstin, marriage is about finding a home in each other—a place where they feel fully accepted and at ease. They cherish being partners who face life’s challenges together while celebrating the small moments, like dancing in the kitchen or simply being present for each other every day. To them, marriage means being excited for the future while building a life filled with love, support, and shared memories. It’s about knowing that no matter what, you’ve got someone by your side—your person.
A Dreamy Destination Wedding in Queenstown
The couple’s love for travel made choosing their wedding venue an easy decision. Queenstown, New Zealand, was the perfect choice as it held special memories from their first overseas holiday together. With its snowy mountain backdrops, the location offered stunning views that made for unforgettable photographs. A highlight of their special day was a helicopter trip to the mountain peaks, where they captured magical moments in the crisp, wintry air. (Yes, it was freezing, but absolutely worth every shiver!)
Finding "The One" (Dress and Suit Edition)
Kirstin’s vision for her wedding gown was clear—she wanted something that would keep her warm while embracing her alternative, whimsical style. Given her fair skin, she had concerns about the classic white dress, but When Freddie Met Lilly ensured she found the perfect fit. With a wide range of sizes to try on, Kirstin felt comfortable throughout the entire experience, finding a gown that made her feel like a true Elven queen, complete with a stunning veil that would make Galadriel herself jealous.
Lachlan’s suit was a reflection of his personal style—classic and timeless with a playful twist. He opted for a velvet jacket with a hidden surprise: a Pokémon-themed lining. This unique detail brought a touch of his personality to their big day, all thanks to When Freddie Met Lilly’s ability to accommodate such customisations seamlessly. After all, who says you can’t have a little fun with formalwear?
A Bridal Experience to Remember
For Kirstin, the best part of her bridal shopping experience was sharing it with the closest women in her life. At When Freddie Met Lilly, she found a warm and welcoming atmosphere that made the process even more special. From the wide selection of gowns to the adorable presence of Coco, the dachshund mascot (because who can resist puppy cuddles?), every detail added a sense of comfort and joy. Lachlan, too, appreciated the ease of tailoring his suit, creating a look that was truly his own.
Styling, Details, and a Love for Adventure
The couple’s wedding style was inspired by their shared love for rich, moody tones, with a palette of black, dark greens, and sage. The bridal party looked effortlessly elegant in black velvet dresses and classic black suits, perfectly complementing the natural beauty of Queenstown. As a nod to their passion for travel, wedding favours included antique keys and little aeroplanes—tiny reminders of their shared adventures that made their guests smile.
Kirstin and Lachlan's advice for future brides and grooms is simple: embrace the day, imperfections and all. Planning might have its challenges, but letting go of perfection allows you to truly enjoy each moment. (Plus, it’s those unexpected little moments that often turn into the best stories!) The couple's focus on being present and savouring every second made their wedding day as special as it was beautiful.
A Heartfelt Thank You
Kirstin and Lachlan’s wedding journey was filled with love, joy, and unforgettable moments, and we at When Freddie Met Lilly are honoured to have been a part of it. We wish them a lifetime of love, adventure, and many more magical moments together.
